For my textual something new, I decided to a short letter to my past self from the beginning of the year that connects my personal experience to my theme of evolution, which is what this portfolio is centered around.
Dear younger me,
Hey, it’s me. Well, it’s you but it’s also me. I’m you from the future, like almost a year from now. That might sound crazy, but anyway I’ve got some advice whether you want to hear it or not. First thing I’ll say is everything is gonna be alright. Like seriously, just chill out. Don’t stress over little things because they’ll seem meaningless in a short amount of time. Now to the important part – what do I mean by that? Oh, well you see, this letter I’m writing to you is actually all just part of a project you’ll end up doing for some class. It’s actually that humanities one you signed up for, and it ends up being a great experience believe it or not. Not just because you get to go on some awesome trips and have fun along the way, but because it’s helped change some ways in how you think. Although there will be many influences and decisions that will start you in shaping who you want to be your first year in college, this class along the way will either directly or indirectly help you at different points along the way, especially when you least expect it. Right now, you’re about to begin college. First get the idea out of your head that everything is going to run perfectly smoothly and as planned, because yeah that’s not gonna be the case at all haha. Getting back to the whole project thing though, I’m gonna need to tie your journey into my, or your, theme of evolution. Throughout the year, as you learn more and more, whether it be through learning or your own experiences, you’ll think that you have it all figured out at many points along the way. This is an evolution of course as you progress more and more, but fundamentally nothing has changed. You still think you know everything, when truly that’s impossible. Therefore, as you go along through the year and work through difficulties, you’ll see that there never truly is an end to learning about something. Everything is limitless, so don’t limit yourself. It’s kinda crazy that it took you an entire year to figure it out, but it’s fine because you know how much it’s changed you. To know everything is to know nothing, and to know nothing is to know everything.
